All games across the Bendigo Junior Football and Bendigo Football Netball league were called off.
“As precautionary measure due to the reported recent spike in positive COVID-19 cases detected in the Greater Bendigo region, AFL Central Victoria has announced the postponement of all scheduled football and netball training sessions and matches until further notice, effective immediately,” AFL Central Victoria said in a statement.
“We thank everyone associated for your understanding and patience during these difficult circumstances.
“AFL Central Victoria, in conjunction with all affiliated leagues, will continue to be responsive, flexible, and diligent as we assess the evolving situation daily, with the health and wellbeing of our community at the forefront of all necessary measures implemented.
“Further announcements regarding training and competition will be made in due course, dependent on relevant health advice.”
Four schools were closed across the Bendigo district last week due to COVID-19 related cases.
The under 18 combined football team, which plays under the Leitchville-Gunbower name, had started the season in a devastating fashion with two big wins.
They were scheduled to play Mount Pleasant on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the under 16s were set to play Kangaroo Flat at home.
