Five-eighth Mam and half Tom Duffy, both 23, will start an NRL game together in the halves for just the second time this year in the 'Battle of Brisbane" with the Dolphins on Saturday night.
With injured captain and half Adam Reynolds retiring at the end of the season, the Mam-Duffy liaison may well be the 2027 pairing although Parramatta playmaker Jonah Pezet, who joins the club next year, will have a say in that too.
Mam is a runner and Duffy is an organiser, so on the surface the combination is promising.
"Duffy's got a lot of great qualities that help my game as well. We're pretty similar in age, so our chemistry and the way we move on the field is pretty intact," Mam said.
"Having that free-flowing spine with my connection with Duffy and Walshy (Reece Walsh) it is going to be very exciting to go out there this weekend and put on the plays we've been doing for the last couple of weeks.
"Duffy's got a really big organising game and I feel like he can organise the team as well and allow myself and Walshy to unlock our strike weapons."
Mam has missed 72 tackles this year, second only to Valentine Holmes at St George Illawarra on 74, who has played two more games.
"It's obviously an area of my game that I want to work on. Defence wins you premierships," Mam said.
"I felt like I started the year pretty badly with some of my defensive movements and initial contact, which I've been trying to work on with our defence coach (Matt Ballin).
"We talk more about getting the right frame of mind to make decisions in contact.
"It's obviously something I look forward to improving over the off-season and hopefully having a stronger season with my defence next year."
The Broncos dynamo is capable of big defensive efforts, as he showcased in last year's grand-final win over Melbourne when he came off the bench and made an immediate impact with his clout.
Attempting the big shot can be a hit-and-miss affair, but Mam's misses are not from any lack of desire.
"I think it's just the competitiveness in my nature. I don't like losing and I think this year I've put all my effort in," he said.
"Sometimes that effort can be in the wrong places, which can cause some defensive misses. That's just a balance I'm trying to work on with my game and implement into the overall package of becoming a better footy player."
The axing of premiership-winning hooker Cory Paix for the match has all Broncos players on notice after their 10 losses from 11 games left their premiership defence in tatters.
Mam, who has bravely battled through a shoulder injury, was demoted to the bench earlier in the season and knows he must perform to keep his spot.
"No one wants to get dropped, whatever the situation may be," he said.
"I took (being demoted) on the chin and went about my work and found myself back in the team. I'm still working to better my game and finish the year strongly."
