The boundary signs have been placed by Parks Victoria west of Nathalia, but there is scant information about what is permitted or prohibited in the reserve.
The reserve is mentioned on the Parks Victoria website but there is no information on activities that are prohibited.
The situation was brought to the attention of Country News by Kyabram camper Mark Younger, who enjoys visiting a section of the Broken Creek downstream of Nathalia, near Fairmans Rd bridge.
“They’ve put up signs but they don’t say anything about the reserve,” Mr Younger said.
“There’s not even a contact phone number to find out information.”
When Mr Younger looked up an information number, he said he was given misleading information, telling him that dogs were only permitted on a lead.
Parks Victoria later clarified with Country News that dogs were permitted in that reserve provided they were under effective control.
Mr Younger said the signs declared: “All plants and animals are protected.”
“Does that mean foxes and rabbits are protected?” Mr Younger said.
“I think they mean ‘native’ plants and animals.”
A Parks Victoria spokesperson suggested people seeking information about the reserves should call the Parks Victoria information line on 13 1963.
