The Bombers have welcomed the McLellan brothers – Matt and Nathan – to the club with both expected to play in key positions.
The club’s newest signings join from Essendon District League club Maribyrnong Park, who featured in the competition’s top tier in 2019.
Nathan’s signature was officially confirmed by the club on Thursday night, describing him as a key defender “who can make any forwards’ day very long”.
Recently re-appointed senior coach Cam van Florestein said he was excited by what the 24-year-old could bring to the club.
“I think Nathan will be a quality signing for us,” he said.
“He has played a lot of senior footy in a high-level competition so his experience will be really important for our younger guys.
“He will also give us the option to swing him forward if needed.
“Having a quality swing man at your club is a bonus because they don’t grow on trees.”
Meanwhile, Matt is expected to play at the other end of the ground as he prepares to take his first steps in senior footy.
“It’s a bonus when you can bring two guys to the club at once,” van Florestein said.
“The boys have got family in the area so it will be nice for them to get the chance to play in front of their loved ones.”
After missing out on the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, van Florestein said excitement was beginning to build ahead of next year.
“Hopefully we can announce a few more signings in the coming weeks,” he said.
“I’m very grateful to have support from people at the club with the recruiting because it is making my job a lot easier.
“It’s important to get everything done early so we can hit the ground running when pre-season does start.”
The Bombers’ coaching staff aren’t the only ones looking forward to seeing the McLellan boys in action either.
On the post announcing Nathan’s arrival, their mother Susan said: “I’m so excited for footy season 2021, watching Nath play for my childhood hometown footy club (where I played all my netball career) will be very special.
“And giving Darren, Matt (Nath’s brother) and I the opportunity to catch up with our family in Leitchy and surrounds will be awesome.
“Looking forward to being part of this footy club and helping out where we can.”
