Echuca’s women’s team are going to be difficult to beat in Goulburn Murray Cricket in the second half of the season.
On Sunday, January 17 the reigning premier stormed to another win against Bamawm Lockington United getting over the line by 85 runs.
Pauline Sleeman took some of the headlines in her first A grade match after she scored 30 runs from 40 balls before retiring.
Meanwhile, Danielle Garden (21 runs) and Grace Moyle (37) continued their strong form from before the Christmas break to help the visitors reach 4/155 from their 30 overs.
Coach Jon Varcoe said he was pleased to see the girls make a strong return to the field with the bat.
“To have three players retire is a tremendous effort,” he said.
“I’m really pleased with how we performed as a side. For Pauline to come in and make some runs shows just how much depth we have at the club.
“Hopefully we can continue to build from here.”
Despite not bowling the home side out, Echuca always appeared well in control during the run chase.
Garden did her best to limit BLU during the run chase taking 2-0 from two overs.
Mandy Ripper was just as successful with her own spell taking 1-9 from six overs.
“We had an even spread across the board,” Varcoe said.
“There were probably a few signs of rust but that was to be expected after the break.”
Echuca will return to action against Beechworth Wanderers at Victoria Park on Sunday.
