Last Thursday, we had 19 members for golf croquet club play.
Playing doubles, four players won all of their three games.
The highest nett hoop score was our day's winner Russ Smyth with 12.
Runner-up was James Gunn with 10, followed by Alan Holding with 8 and Cherie Lessing with 7.
And four players scored hoops in one: Russ Smyth, Kevin Harrison, Jenny Muhlebach and Anne Dodd.
We held our Have a Crack at Croquet day on Sunday and numbers were down on the last few come-and-try days.
We put that down to the hot weather, but it wasn't too bad on court with a gentle breeze keeping conditions tolerable.
We did have some visitors with really good potential though, and a few have booked lessons from Marjorie Grant, after which they will be ready to hoop.
It was a good turnout for golf croquet on Tuesday with 21 members playing doubles.
Three players won all their three games.
Our winner was Alan Holding who had a nett hoop score of +10.
Then there was no separating the next two: Anne Dodd and Ruth Mole who both scored 7-6, 7-5, 7-4 in their three games, so we had joint runners-up, the first time that's happened in a long while.
Hoops in one were scored by Ian Grant and Fiona Larcombe.
The prestigious Victorian Croquet Association Gold Medal and Silver Shield competitions were held at Cairnlea at the weekend.
Rich River member Kenn Boal was one of the eight players in the Gold Medal event, competing well and finishing as runner-up against some of the top association croquet players in Victoria.
Kenn is continuing his AC lessons at Rich River which are still well attended by his enthusiastic students.
We’re all now looking forward to our social day next Tuesday where we are expecting more than 50 players from clubs around Victoria and NSW.
Rich River is always happy to welcome beginners and visitors and if you’d like to have a crack at croquet, lessons can be arranged with our accredited coach Marjorie Grant.
Please contact Marjorie on 5480 9985 or Helen on 0428 307 200 for details.
