After winning the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division weekend pennant title on March 20, Moama came up against Bendigo Bowls Division champion South Bendigo on Sunday.
There they would decide who would represent the Bendigo Campaspe region at the state event later this month.
But despite playing excellent bowls, Moama came up wistfully short in the 48-49 loss at East Bendigo.
Moama team manager and player Barry Brennan said his side was both disappointed to lose and proud of their efforts on the day.
“It was a good game played in good spirits and good conditions,” Brennan said.
“It's a good effort to get there and we were not disgraced, we performed very well.
“We were as good as can be without the win. And though it's disappointing losing, it's not the way it was meant to be.”
With their rivals coming in with plenty of momentum after taking out their own local premiership the day before, Brennan said Moama knew it had to bring its A game into the final.
“You go in knowing you need to play very well - they are the best in their area,” he said.
“So you know it's not going to be a walk in the park. It’s a competitive, hard game and you have to perform.
“And to be honest we did, but so did they.
“We had a good year. We're satisfied with the way we played, so we reset and start again next season.”
In the Bendigo Campaspe midweek pennant region final, Echuca came away short in its clash with Kangaroo Flat.
Playing at Golden Square on Monday, Kangaroo Flat summoned a 55-38 win to defeat Echuca and progress to the state finals.
The Champion of State Pennant will be head at Moama Bowling Club over four days from April 24-27.
The weekend pennant series final will run from Saturday, April 24 to Sunday, April 25, while midweek pennant finals will be held from April 26 to April 27.
