Starting with football and netball in the Goulburn Valley League, where Echuca faces Mooroopna, the football side looking for a fifth straight win to open 2026, while the Murray Bombers netball side will feature in the league’s game of the round, as Echuca and the Cats both have perfect records.
Both matches are on Saturday at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, with senior football beginning at 2pm and A-grade netball starting at 2.15pm.
In the Murray league, Moama takes on Nathalia, the Magpies football side looking to pick itself up off the canvas after successive defeats, while the netball side is also aiming to bounce back from a first defeat last time out.
Nathalia Recreation Reserve will host both matches on Saturday, with senior football starting at 2pm and A-grade netball from 1.30pm.
Elsewhere, Echuca United’s football side is eyeing two consecutive wins, this weekend’s opponent being winless Rumbalara, with the netball being somewhat of a reverse, as the winless Eagles will attempt to get off the mark against a Rumba side in good form.
Both matches will be played at Echuca South Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with senior football beginning at 2pm and A-grade netball starting at 1.30pm.
Echuca United’s senior football side has its eye on two straight wins this weekend.
Other local Murray league outfit Tongala will serve the bye this weekend.
To the Heathcote District Football Netball League, where Leitchville-Gunbower is back in action after a bye, the football outfit hosting Huntly in a clash it should win, though the netball fixture is more of a toss-up, the Bombers having won last time out but facing a Huntly side that did likewise in round three.
The A-grade meeting will begin at 2.30pm, shortly after the senior football clash starts at 2.20pm, both taking place at Gunbower Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Lockington Bamawm United will also feature in the league’s round four slate, with the Cats’ football side aiming for its first win since round one against Heathcote.
The two clubs are expected to play out a close netball encounter, both Locky and the Saints without a win from their opening matches.
The A-grade netball begins at 3pm, starting after the senior football at 2.20pm, with both matches at Barrack Reserve on Saturday.
Finally, Picola United and Mathoura will both feature in round five of the Picola and District Football Netball League, the Blues taking on Blighty, with the football and netball sides both eyeing four straight wins to open their seasons against two struggling Redeyes teams.
Both matches will be at Blighty Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with senior football beginning at 2.05pm and A-grade netball from 1.30pm.
Mathoura is facing two tough match-ups against Waaia, the Bombers’ football side currently sitting top of the ladder with a whopping 740 percentage, while its netball outfit is second and expected to beat the bottom-placed Timbercutters.
Waaia Recreation Reserve will host both matches on Saturday, the A-grade netball clash starting at 1.30pm, with senior football beginning at 2.05pm.
Soccer
The Border Raiders men will feature in the game of the round in the Football Victoria Bendigo League 2 on Saturday, second-placed Echuca-Moama travelling to take on third-placed Swan Hill at Ken Harrison Reserve, with the action beginning at 2.30pm.
The women take to the pitch on Sunday away at La Trobe University, aiming for a third straight win to begin their season against a winless opponent, that match beginning at 12.30pm.
Women’s football
Moama’s youth girls will mirror the men’s side with their fixture this weekend, also facing Nathalia, the Magpies looking for three straight wins at Moama Recreation reserve on Sunday, with the game starting at noon.
The women will follow that clash at 1.35pm against Rumbalara, the side looking to bounce back after a heavy loss to Shepparton United last weekend.
Hockey
The Echuca-Moama men will seek an improved performance in the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association on Saturday when they face Strikers Hockey Club Blue at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex, the match beginning at 4.15pm.
The women will play earlier in the day at the same venue, taking on Mooroopna Hockey Club at 1.15pm, with the River Rats looking for a second successive win after thrashing Shepparton Youth Club Scorchers in round one.
