Highly touted Echuca draft prospect Cody Walker hasn’t suited up for Victoria Country since he left the field with a shoulder injury in the opening game against Allies on June 14.
He left the game in the third quarter with 16 disposals and five clearances, Vic Country going on to win 14.12 (96) to 12.11 (83).
Walker told The Riv following the injury he was hopeful to return for the team’s second game against Western Australia on July 3, but the top prospect remained sidelined for that fixture.
In his absence, WA picked up the win, overturning a significant half-time deficit to prevail 10.16 (76) to 9.6 (60).
Walker is expected to return for the side’s match-up with South Australia in Ballarat on July 8.
Victoria Country will then conclude its campaign on July 19 in an intra-state showdown with Victoria Metro, also held at the Mars Stadium in Ballarat.
In the under-18 girls championships, Moama’s Beth Morris has been representing the region with the Victoria Country side.
The team has completed three of its four fixtures, but hasn’t been able to secure a victory thus far.
Morris has served in various roles throughout the tournament, her best performance coming in the most recent game against Western Australia on July 4.
Morris was effective on both sides of the ball, logging 19 disposals, three tackles, two score involvements and four intercept possessions.
Victoria Country lost the game 5.3 (33) to 6.4 (40).
The side dropped earlier fixtures against Allies 8.8 (56) to 5.8 (38) and Queensland 7.8 (50) to 5.6 (36).
The girls’ final match will be on July 11 against Victoria Metro at Shepley Oval in Dandenong.
