Blues fall further against Berrigan

Picola United remains mired in a losing streak, going down heavily to Berrigan in Picola District Football League on Saturday.

The Blues started the year brightly against some of the competition strugglers, but suffered a third straight defeat in disappointing fashion, wiped out by 107 points, at home, at Picola Recreation Reserve.

The game started innocently enough for both sides, with Berrigan taking a modest 19-8 lead into the first break, but the Saints would really turn it on in the second.

Seven goals to one sailed through the sticks in the term and even that would be a step higher than the Blues’ offensive output after half-time, the side held to a single point over the final two quarters.

Berrigan, contrastingly, found its way to goal consistently throughout the game, finishing with 18.14 (122) to Picola’s 2.3 (15).

Keegam Donnie was the Saints’ star up front with seven majors, while Hayden Brown kicked both of Picola’s goals in the first half.

Picola (4-3) falls out of the top eight with the defeat and the manner of this recent run will cause concern around its finals prospects.

The Blues will require significant improvement against Barooga (also 4-3) to break this losing run and restore their position among the finals places.
