It was a 1-2 finish for Australia, with Pearse’s teammate Alex Saffy taking away gold, edging the Bamawm Extension swimmer out of gold by just three tenths of a second.
Canadian swimmer Jack Gill rounded out the podium, finishing in a time of 1 minute 00.3 seconds.
The final took place early morning Saturday, July 25 Australian time.
Pearse had got the better of Saffy by 0.62 seconds at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, before Saffy turned the tables at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, narrowly claiming bronze ahead of his compatriot.
Taking to Instagram shortly after touching the wall, Pearse paid tribute to his training partner, writing: “Proud of you lil bro.”
The 2026 Commonwealth Games are being held in a pared-back format, featuring just 10 sports — the fewest on the programme since 1994.
After the Victorian government controversially withdrew from hosting duties in 2023, Glasgow stepped up as a last-minute replacement, making use of existing venues across the city.
The Games will run until 2 August.
