Eagles bounce back in style

Echuca United scored its second CVFL girls win at the weekend.

After several close losses Echuca United’s under-18 girls got back to winning ways in Central Victoria Football League, recording a dominant victory over Golden Square at the weekend.

The Eagles came out early with plenty of motivation at Echuca South Recreation Reserve, having lost their last home fixture by a point at the death.

United quickly put that day out of its mind in a clinical first half that saw it lead 19-0 at quarter-time and 5.8 (38) to nil at half-time.

The foot came off the accelerator a little after the main break, with Golden Square finding its first points in the third and going on to kick three late goals to finish 4.2 (26), but the host would still edge the second half by a point, posting 9.11 (65) for the game to walk away with a 39-point win.

A balanced scoring effort saw Jordi Cain lead the way for the Eagles with three goals, while Isabella Nathan and Ava Plattfuss provided strong support with two each.

The victory, Echuca United’s second of the campaign, breaks it away from Golden Square near the bottom of the table, the Eagles now alone in eighth and within striking distance of several sides above them.

The Strathfieldsaye Storm (7-1) will provide a significant challenge next up, the Eagles back at home for the clash this Sunday.
