Eagles score maiden CVFL win

United kicked two goals in the opening quarter, and added three minor scores to lead 15-1 after one.

Kangaroo Flat fought back in the second period, kicking two goals, but the Eagles held on to the advantage, kicking one of their own, while peppering the Kangaroos’ goal with four more behinds.

Echuca United extended an 11-point halftime lead to 16 by the final break, kicking another major and keeping Kangaroo Flat quiet.

The visitor made a late run to try and make things interesting, but the Eagles held firm to close out the game 5.9 (39) to 4.5 (29).

Jada Dennis slotted two of the United goals, while Charlie Martin, best-on ground Ruby Morgan and Chelsea Swiggs also chipped in.

The club’s first win advances Echuca United into seventh in the 10-team competition with a 1-3 overall record.

The Eagles will continue their home stand this Sunday, as Castlemaine (2-2) comes to town.
