Another four rinks in play for the popular Scrounge game on Wednesday, where the bowlers enjoyed the privilege of playing in ideal conditions.
On rink one, our Echuca visitor Bruce Haines set the game in action early in the match-up, on his way to a winning tally of 63 points and collecting the daily award for the top score.
In second place was the evergreen Russell Shawcross on 43 points while Peter "Eggsy" Egan managed 28.
Next door Pos Andrea was all over the kitty to score a handy 61 points and hold at bay Denise Gilmore a solid 41 points.
Third place went to Graham Turner with a comeback 34 points.
Rink three went to the other half of the Andrea clan where John Andrea grabbed the chocolates with a well compiled 60 points, to lead home Neil Haines on 48 points followed by Jim Harris who had to retire injured on 28 points. Speedy recovery "Jimbo".
On the final rink, John "Roo" Fisher returned an elegant 51 points and won the rink narrowly from club president John van den Bosch, 48 points, while Leon Laffy tried valiantly to tally 38 points.
On Saturday, the bowlers were greeted by some eerie weather conditions but managed to play out the full game.
A small field contested the event, producing some excellent scoring across the board.
Best score on the day belonged to club secretary Leanne McInnes with a total 60 points to earn the award from Pos Andrea 40 and Lorraine Appleby 39 points.
The other rink went to Ashley Dobell showing good pre-season pennant form scoring 46 points and winning ahead of John Andrea 38, Jim Harris 28 and John van den Bosch 25 points.
Another sociable day of bowls for all.
The Sixty and Over competition will commence the new season on Wednesday, September 2 at the Elmore Bowling Club. Starting time is 11am.

Rochester Golf Club
With the course in great condition, good scores are becoming the norm.
Wednesday’s 9-hole social golf was no exception, played on the back nine.
Organiser Richard Feuk is enjoying the manicured fairways and extra run.
Feuk's good score of 23 points was just enough to take the win on a 3 -way countback from Peter Anderson, Chris Trewin and Des Hocking all on 22 points, followed by Elmore's Allan Campbell and David Gebbie with 21 points.
Feuk was also nearest-the-pin on the 12th hole.
On Friday, the ladies played the 2nd round of the Ladies Club Championships.
The daily winner was Louise Eeles, who is in red-hot form, and she scored 101-33-70.
Runner-up was Barbara McCarty on a countback from Julie Leahy, both with net 70.
After two rounds of the Ladies Championship, Louise Williams has one hand on the trophy, leading with the best gross score of 171, and next best is Leisa Evans 182.
Eeles leads the best net score on 139 from Barbara McCarty (142).
Nearest-the-pin winners were Leisa Evans for her 2nd shots to the 3rd and 8th, (5th) Julie Leahy and Louise Eeles (12th).
In the 9-hole comp, Cate Ward had 47-19-28 from Sally Parker 57-24-33.
On Saturday, the men played a Par event.
Once again, good scoring was evident, none better than that of in-form golfer Les Hedington, whose +7 was just enough to hold off Robert Vise with +6.
Other good scores and ball winners were: Darren White and Corey Windridge (+5), David Gebbie +4, Peter Anderson and Troy McInnes (+3).
Les Hedington was closest to the 5th and was unlucky not to take out the "Campaspe News" eagles nest on the 12th, Julie Leahy (8th), 2nd shot to the 9th was Chris White and 2nd shot to the 18th was Brent Sweeney.
Captain Darren White is playing very consistent golf and easily accounted for Steve Bubb in the semi-final of the club's Singles Match Play Championship.
A BBQ lunch will follow a major working bee next Sunday, August 16, commencing at 10am.
The main purpose is to finish off the great work our hard-working maintenance team has done over the last few months in preparing the course for the prestigious Victorian Sandgreens Championship to be held over the following weekend.
Lockington Golf Club
August 7 – Stableford – Ivy Kelly Trophy
There was a good field with golfers enjoying a rare winter’s day of sunshine.
The Ivy Kelly Trophy was first contested in 1976, and this year saw a first-time winner.
Fiona Newton was victorious with an excellent score of 38 points.
Fiona also won the Lockington Foodworks Player of the Day voucher.
Pauline Humbert was next best with a very respectable 34 points. Nearest the pin: Angela Bacon.
August 8 – Stroke
Jason Wakefield was in outstanding form, returning the day’s best score of 75-10-65 to win the Lockington Foodworks Player of the Day voucher.
He also won Division 1, while Simon Portwine played some super golf to finish with 86-18-68 to win Division 2.
Next best scores on the day were returned by Terry Thomas (69) and Tom Scurrah (72).
Nearest the pins: 17th – David Shawcross; 2nd shot 12th – Terry Thomas, Simon Portwine, David Shawcross; 2nd shot 18th for the 6-pack smack – Neil Maddison.
Spike’s Longest Drive on the 2nd, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing – Jason Wakefield, Simon Portwine, Jeff Carnie.
Neither the Echuca Hip Pocket eagles nest on the 3rd, nor Captain Grant’s yardstick on the 16th was won, the yardstick has hit $130.
Saturday’s round was the 5th and last chance to qualify for the Gartside Cup Final (to be played on Saturday, August 22), with Simon Portwine, Jeff Carnie and Mark Lyons all making it through, while Neil Maddison is on standby (again! – 3rd time).
Handicap Matchplay semi-final
Grant Humbert had to give 4-time champion Terry Thomas 8 shots in their contest, but began well with 3 pars to be 2-up after 3.
In a quality match, Terry parred the 4th to win it, while both birdied the 5th to halve the hole.
The match then turned on its head when Terry played the next 5 holes only 1-over the card and won them all to surge to a 4-up lead.
Grant stopped the rot by halving the 11th (with a par), but Terry won the 12th to have victory in his sights.
Grant won the 13th to have a flicker of hope, but Terry parred the 14th to seal a comprehensive 5 and 4 win.
He has progressed to the final, where he will play the winner of the semi-final between Kevin Humbert and Stuart Newton.
