Jack Jansen booted five goals as Lockington-Bamawm United’s reserves progressed to a second qualifying final in the Heathcote District Football League.
While the Heathcote District Football Netball League finals series began in senior football and A-grade netball at the weekend, local clubs also had sides competing in the first week of finals across other grades.

Lockington-Bamawm United have particularly strong representation in the lower grades, while three Leitchville-Gunbower teams remain in the finals mix.
Football
Reserves
Like its senior side, Lockington’s reserves will face North Bendigo in the second week of finals after it won its qualifying final against Huntly 11.12 (78) to 6.3 (39).
The Cats gradually built their lead throughout the match, with Jack Jansen (five) and Henry Peris (four) leading the way in the goal-kicking department.
Under-18
Lockington also featured in the first week of the under-18 finals series, with the Cats losing to Mount Pleasant 6.8 (44) to 8.8 (56) in a qualifying final.
Lockington’s next opponent will be Huntly after it defeated Colbinabbin in the elimination final.
Under-15
The Cats were again represented in the under-15 final series, and won their qualifying final against Runnymede 8.7 (55) to 6.2 (38).
As a result, Lockington now takes on Leitchville-Gunbower in another qualifying final, the winner booking its place in the grand final.
Leitchville is the favourite having finished as the minor premier with a 12-1 regular season record.
Netball
Leitchville-Gunbower will be up against Huntly in the second week of the B-grade netball finals series after eliminating Heathcote.
B-grade
The Bombers progressed to the second week of the finals series by comfortably defeating Heathcote 56-37 in an elimination final.
Leitchville only led 26-21 at half-time but produced a scintillating second half performance, outscoring the Saints 30-16 across the third and fourth periods.
Huntly is the Bombers’ next opponent, the Hawks condemned to the semi-final after losing to Mount Pleasant.
B-reserve
Lockington finished as the division’s minor premier, and after a week off will take on Huntly in a grand final qualifier.
Under-17
Lockington were well beaten by White Hills in a qualifying final, going down 54-35, with the Cats now facing Elmore in a semi-final next.
Leitchville-Gunbower could’ve been taking on the Cats but lost to the Bloods in the elimination final 36-29.
Under-15
Lockington will also be represented in the second week of the under-15 finals, progressing to a second qualifying final after it defeated Colbinabbin 46-28.
The Cats now face White Hills for a place in the grand final.
Under-13
Lockington finished as minor premier, and will face Leitchville-Gunbower in a grand final qualifier after the Bombers defeated Mount Pleasant 22-19.
