Echuca took on Shepparton United in the Goulburn Valley League and, although, its footballers had no issues in a 27.9 (171) to 10.11 (71) triumph, the Murray Bombers suffered a shock defeat in A-grade netball.
Bronwyn Slater’s side went down 49-48, the result putting its hopes of finishing in the competition’s top two in jeopardy.
Elsewhere, Moama was easily accounted for in the Murray league across both its meetings against Nathalia.
The Magpies are officially out of finals contention in football after they lost 6.14 (50) to 12.10 (82), while their netball outfit slipped to fifth on the ladder after a humbling 80-41 defeat to the league leader.
Echuca United had a mixed day at the office against Congupna, with both senior matches going as expected.
The Road flexed their muscles in a 21.14 (140) to 5.2 (32) football win, though the Eagles won A-grade netball 49-24 for their second consecutive victory.
In the Heathcote District Football Netball League, the only local senior side in action was Lockington-Bamawm United’s reserves, which won its qualifying final against Huntly 11.12 (78) to 6.3 (39).
LBU also had four junior teams featuring in finals, with its football and netball under-15 sides winning their matches.
Today, Sunday, August 16, the Cats’ senior footballers are playing their elimination final against Heathcote at Elmore Recreation Reserve, with the first bounce at 2.15pm.
Leitchville-Gunbower had one junior side feature in Saturday’s slate, with its under-13 netball outfit winning its qualifying final, while earlier today the Bombers’ under-17s were eliminated from the netball post-season by Elmore.
In the Picola District Football Netball League, Picola United’s A-grade netballers were eliminated from the post-season after a 50-41 loss to Tocumwal.
However, the Blues’ C-reserve team is through to the next phase after a nail-biting 20-19 win over Deniliquin Rovers.
In football, all Picola sides have now concluded their seasons after the reserves and under-14s were eliminated.
Mathoura had none of its football teams enter finals, but had three junior netball sides compete this weekend.
The Timbercutters’ under-13s and under-15s are still alive after winning their elimination finals, though the under-17s were knocked out earlier today by Tocumwal.
