Hone competed in the ProVelo Super League series between January and March, battling some of the country’s best riders across six separate events, either three-day tours or one-day races.
When the dust settled, Hone emerged as the top under-23 in the series, earning 363 points to his nearest rival’s 304.
The 19-year-old also finished second in the overall classification, behind Team Brennan teammate Oliver Bleddyn.
Hone actually accumulated the most general classification points of any rider in the series (309), but Bleddyn was able to take the overall series by way of jersey and stage points.
The Echuca rider’s best event of the series was the Tour of Tasmania, where Hone topped the chart with a four-stage cumulative time of 6.10:48, two seconds ahead of Bleddyn.
Hone picked up two top 10 finishes during the tour, including a trip to the podium in the final stage, in third place, where he was joined by another Team Brennan compatriot and Echuca Moama Cycling Club alumni Patrick Eddy.
He also grabbed second in the final race of the series and third race of the Q Tour in Queensland.
Hone’s consistency across the series was key to his success, the Echuca rider finishing in the top 10 in all four three-day tours and one of the two one-day races.
Hone is hoping his great domestic form will lead to further international opportunities.
