Leitchville-Gunbower’s barren run has continued.

The Combine remains without a win in the McMahon Shield after falling short against Nondies-Cohuna at Gunbower Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

Despite a superb 81 from opener Tyler Jones, L-G endured a 107-run defeat.

The result leaves it anchored in the cellar on the A-grade ladder, only trailed by Tongala.

Chasing down 308 was always going to be tricky after an outfield impacted in the days leading up to Saturday.

Jones certainly made a great fist of it, illustrating why he is in the upper echelon of the competition’s best batsmen.

As his top-order compadres came and went, Jones shone like a beacon, hitting seven fours and a six during his 105-ball stay.

The opener has now made 286 runs at 47.67.

Apart from Jones, only Jason Keath, who scored an unbeaten 46, produced any sustained resistance against the Nondies-Cohuna attack.

The heart of the L-G batting order was undone by the accuracy and guile of Kyeran Ellery.

Ellery cut a swathe through the middle and lower order on his way to figures of 5-37 from 16 overs.

He was ably supported by Sam O’Shea (3-23), who claimed the key wicket of Jones, and Riley Hird (2-33).

The success keeps Nondies-Cohuna in calculations for a top four berth ahead of a big trip to Moama this weekend.

Leitchville-Gunbower’s last chance for a win before Christmas will be against BLU.
