Carol Hardman, Jane Glowrey, Karen Druitt and Leanne Landy secured the bowl for Deni Golf Club, which was presented by Cathy Cohen, the granddaughter of Mary Bradshaw.
There were 60 players on both days, representing clubs including, Thurgoona, Albury Commercial, Corowa, Barham, Coleambally, Finley, Jerilderie, Murray Downs and Ballarat.
Another highlight of the two-day event, which attracted golfers from throughout the Riverina, was a hole-in-one on the fifth hole (sponsored by the Deniliquin Pastoral Times) on Thursday by Sarah Aitken.
Thursday’s winners in a 2-person ambrose were Jenny Swainger and Vicki Brunker with 68.25, from runners-up Susan Nicholson and Carolyn Phelps, on countback to Connie Villeneuve and Raquel Vogel.
There was a stableford event on Friday in conjunction with the Bowl. A-grade winner was Connie Villeneuve with 34 points on countback from Raquel Vogel; B-grade Carol Hardman 42 points from runner-up Gai Singleton 40, and C-grade Anne Taylor 36 points on countback from Margo Gregory.
Players were appreciative of the effort which went into presenting the golf course in pristine condition.
On Saturday, there was a medley stableford with three grades. A-grade winner was Thomas Bult with 37 points from runner-up Freddy Earlman 36; B-grade Jack McGrillen 40 points from runner-up John Penna 38, and C-grade Sarah Young with an impressive 46 points from runner-up Denise Hunter on 37.
Tuesday was 9 holes stroke, won by Yvonne Holmes with 35 net from runner-up Vicki Barnes 35.5.
In Wednesday’s stableford event the A-grade winner was Josh Hunt with 41 points from runner-up John Radeski 37, and B-grade winner John Henderson also with 41 points from runner-up Brian Dixon 39.
Coming up, tomorrow is medley stroke and the men’s monthly medal, Tuesday is 9 holes stableford, Wednesday is stableford, Thursday is 9 and 18 holes stableford and next Saturday is medley foursomes and the men’s foursomes championship.
A special event this month is the Country Education Foundation Edward River region fundraiser on Sunday, September 20. This will be 4-person ambrose, 12 noon tee-off for $30 per person which includes a barbecue lunch.
