Starting in the Goulburn Valley League, where Echuca’s senior football side is aiming for a fourth consecutive win to start the season against Kyabram, the Bombers looking for their third success in a clash between two premiership contenders.
In A-grade netball, Echuca is also eyeing four straight wins — and is likely to do so against a lowly Kyabram side that has lost each of its first three matches by a combined margin of 158 goals.
Both matches will begin at 6.30pm at Kyabram Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
In more local action, Moama and Tongala meet this weekend in the Murray league, with the football fixture seeing both sides enter with one win to their name, the Magpies back in action after a bye.
Anticipation surrounds the netball clash, as unbeaten Moama faces a Blues side coming off two strong victories over Numurkah and Echuca United.
Both matches will be at Moama Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with senior football starting at 6pm, while A-grade netball begins at 4.30pm.
Moama recruit Chelsey Wright will face her old side Tongala in Murray league netball this weekend.
Other local Murray league outfit Echuca United has another bye this weekend.
In the Heathcote District Football Netball League, Lockington Bamawm United faces two tough encounters against Mount Pleasant, with the football seeing the Cats, who have been very competitive, tackle the reigning premier Mighty Mounts in an early season litmus test.
The netball clash is not expected to be as closely run, though Locky will still attempt to notch its first win of 2026 against a Pleasant side that eviscerated Leitchville-Gunbower and Huntly in its first two matches.
Both fixtures are taking place at Lockington Recreation Reserve on Sunday; senior football beginning at 2.20pm, with A-grade netball starting at 2.30pm.
Leitchville-Gunbower won’t be in action this weekend, serving a bye for round three.
Finally, rivals Mathoura and Picola United meet this weekend in one of the Picola District Football Netball League’s Anzac Day twilight fixtures, with the Blues eyeing a third straight win in the football against the struggling Timbercutters.
Mathoura’s netball side, which lost only narrowly to Berrigan last week, should be more competitive, facing a Picola side also aiming for three consecutive victories.
This edition of the rivalry is taking place at Mathoura Recreation Reserve, with senior football beginning at 6.05pm and A-grade netball starting at 5.30pm.
Soccer
After an impressive 5-0 win in round one against Spring Gully United, Echuca-Moama Border Raiders women are at Jack Eddy Oval for the first time this season on Sunday, facing Castlemaine Goldfields from 11am.
The Border Raiders men’s side has the bye this weekend.
Women’s football
Moama’s youth girls will look to make it two wins from two to start the season when they face Shepparton United this Sunday at Moama Recreation Reserve, with the match beginning at 1pm.
That clash will act as the curtain-raiser to the Moama women’s fixture, Brad Millen’s team starting at 2.30pm and also looking for successive wins.
