Although we showed some fight early, we suffered our worst loss for this season.
At least we get to have another crack next week.
Jack Pell stood tough in defence, and Sam Singleton fought all day.
We regroup and start work on Tuesday.
Final score: Blighty 2.4 (16) def by Waaia 27.16 (178).
Reserves
It was a game full of fight that had patches of good ball movement against the skilled Waaia side.
But the twos still suffered a convincing loss.
Starting a little flat-footed, especially throughout the midfield, allowed Waaia to hold the ball in the forward half majority of the game.
Patches of good ball movement from the likes of Shannon Bond and Danyon Williams down back punctured Waaia’s push up the ground, giving us some scoring opportunities.
We’re proud of the effort and fight, and the team did not drop heads against a classy testing opposition.
We need to reset the fight and determination in practice next week.
Best on ground were Shannon Bond, Danyon Williams, Jacob Wawryzcki, Joshua Wawryzcki and Nash Suckling.
Final score: Blighty 3.0 (18) def by Waaia 19.9 (123).
Thirds
No Waaia opposition.
Fourths
Blighty had a few team members missing, which made a difference, but the fourths were well supported by the fifths who stepped up to help them out.
Being short on fourth players, it really gave the team a good chance to step up and have a go.
Kayden Leach and Charlie Tremble were given many jobs throughout the game and always gave it their best.
Deakin Kelly had great game in the back line and was able to save a few goals.
Best on ground went to Andrew Frost, who tried hard all day, along with Ben Macdonald and Langa Fevaleaki playing in the ruck and midfield.
Eli Hoskin came up from the fifths and will be a player to watch. He showed no fear and was able to win and contested ball.
Liam Gordon had some great plays, and if he can keep this form up, he is going to have a great season.
The good sports award went to Maddy Hunter. She never gave up and always kept a very positive attitude.
Final score: Blighty 0.0 (0) def by Waaia 14.7 (91).
Fifths
We changed the side around this week, trying the kids in new positions.
It may have contributed to our slow start, as Waaia were using and moving the ball forward with a lot of skill and precision putting us on the back foot.
After quarter time, we started to get back to playing our type of football, winning the ball around the contest and applying pressure when they had the ball.
The last quarter opened up for us.
We finished strongly kicking numerous goals.
Thanks to Waaia for lending us a few players and the sportsmanship displayed between both sides.
Great to see the kids singing the club song after the game as a club!
Final score: Not scored.
Awards: Eli, Victor, Jack M, Clancy, Alfie and Jack D.
