Tenders for the construction of “The Missing Link”, as it has become known by regular users of the walking and cycling pathway, will close at 2pm on June 30.
A 900-signature petition calling for the completion of the shared pathway was submitted to Campaspe Shire Council in March. It has obviously had the desired affect.
Kyabram-Deakin ward councillor Daniel Mackrell presented the petition at council’s March 21 meeting on behalf of local residents who have been waiting 10 years for the dual walking/cycling circuit to be completed.
The $900,000 project will see the development of a dual cycling/walking track along the north side of Breen Ave from Cooma Rd to Allan St — potentially before Christmas.
Council is advertising for a suitably experienced contractor to complete construction of an asphalt shared user path along Breen Ave, Kyabram, between Allan St and Bolitho Rd, to provide the missing link for the town’s walking and cycling pathway.
It will require about 1.78 kilometres of shared user path to be completed, completing the shared user path network.
The project has been completed in stages, with the engagement and design element completed in March this year and the tender process due to be competed by the end of May.
Construction is extended to be completed by the end of December, providing a shared user path that will provide recreational and social benefits for the local community.
The tender is the latest in a series of tendered projects by the shire, the last being the construction of netball change rooms at Echuca Football Netball Club’s Victoria Park base.
Tenders closed for the project on May 27, a day after the upgrade to the Echuca aerodrome tenders closed.
