Gun club named team of the year

And as has become effectively a tradition, Echuca’s shooters took centre stage on their home field.

Steve Haberman, a national champion and Olympian in 1996 and 2004, had his nearly 40-year career honoured as he was inducted into the VCTA Hall of Fame on the tournament’s opening day.

Haberman gained a spot on the state team for the nationals, as did club mates Steve Traill and Grant Prior.

The club also boasts young gun Kiara Dean who showed she may well be the best young shooter in the country, having already locked down the title for best in the state.

Adding to the swag of awards the club has picked up, Steve Atkins was named captain of the Australian target shooting team, while Haberman and Dean represented the twin towns at the 13th ICTSF World DTL Championships in Wagga Wagga.
