Not that Moama were going to in their match against Nathalia on Saturday.
But there was a concern beforehand that maybe Moama weren’t going to get the tune up they needed for Good Friday’s clash with Echuca United.
That was put to rest from the first centre pass of their clash.
‘‘I think we underestimated them a bit,’’ co-coach Charlotte Long said.
‘‘We did have a bit of worry that it wasn’t going to be a great lead-up, but we could tell straight away if we weren’t on our game we would have a couple of issues during the match.’’
Long said her side had to work out a few issues from their previous victory against Tongala.
‘‘Our skills were there against Tonny, but we walked away thinking there were still some issues around our teamwork that had to be rectified if we were going to be at our best.
‘‘We started to make those changes early, our talking was a lot better where we probably didn’t get the best out of ourselves last week. We were communicating well, making sure we knew which options were on and taking the better options to move the ball. It bodes well for us to be able to improve on a big issue early, it will set us up well for the remainder of the year.’’
With the minor teamwork issue worked out, Moama were at full flight, beating the Purples by 41-goals.
It’s a tune up much needed for an Echuca United side who have had two strong opening matches.
‘‘They’ve been pushed in both games this year, so they have found the level they need to go to in tough matches,’’ Long said of their upcoming opponents.
‘‘It’s perfect preparation for them, so we will have to put in some hard yards this week to get ourselves prepared for what should be a really good match on Good Friday.’’
