The Magpies have well and truly course corrected following a slow start to the season, rounding back into flag contending form with a win over the Blues in round five of the Murray Netball League.

In what was always anticipated to be a close contest, Moama got the upper hand early, goaling 10 times in the opening quarter while holding Tonny to six.
The second period saw both teams warm into the match, with the Blues submitting an 11-goal period to bring them back into the contest, with the Magpies doing just enough to keep a five-goal lead at half-time.
Abby Larkin was stellar in goal defence.
The Moama defenders did their job to hold Tonny to just nine goals in the third term, while its attack blossomed down the other end of the court, tallying 14 goals to extend its lead.
An eight-goal effort down the stretch wasn’t enough to get the Blues close to the Magpies’ total, with the home side running away with the contest and drilling 12 more for fun.

The final score was Moama 48 to Tongala 34.
The 14-goal victory will serve as a major confidence boost for a side still finding its footing in 2025 while Tongala continues to toil after being a perennially good side for much of the decade.

Moama’s Hannah Richards celebrated 50 games for the A-grade side and capped it off with a strong performance as goal shooter.
Both sides should be in for a win in round six as the Magpies will return home for their annual ladies’ day event and will face struggling Barooga while the Blues will travel to Cobram to come up against the Tigers.
