Taking the trip to Mansfield Recreation Reserve, the Mowers failed to fire in the opening quarter, but equally shut down the Eagles’ attack as disruptive defence defined the game.
After a scoreless term, both sides made their opening breakthrough in the second, and a minor score from Mansfield put it on top at the half 7-6.
Moama responded after the break with the defining quarter.
Again the Mowers’ defence stood up, shutting out the Eagles, while the visitors logged five scoring shots to surge into the lead 21-7.
Given the state of the game a margin of 14 looked ominous for the Eagles and, although the hosts kicked the only goal of the fourth quarter, Moama held on for the four points, 3.5 (23) to 2.2 (14).
Shaleah Cooper, Savannah Emery and Lily Hillman finished off the few successful Moama attacking raids with a goal each.
Moama (9-1) continues to trail unbeaten leader Shepparton United (10-0) with four rounds remaining in the regular season.
The highlight fixture over the final month will be a top-of-the-table clash on July 24.
Before that the league is on a general bye this weekend, followed by the Mowers travelling to Tatura on Sunday, July 12.
The Mowers’ girls had the bye at the weekend, not returning to action until July 12, when they will take on Cobram at home.
