Rich River Croquet Club hosted its annual Anzac Day Classic over the past week, attracting top croquet players from across the country.

One of the landmark events on the club’s calendar, the tournament kicked off on May 3-4 with division one play, which continued into May 5-6 for division two, and concluded with division three over May 7-8.

Players’ divisions are determined by their official handicaps.
The tournament featured association croquet, the more strategic and complex variety of the sport compared to golf croquet.
Local players Kenn Boal, Claire Bassett and Russell Smyth took part in the 12-player division one, competing against some of the best from around Victoria and interstate, including several players who are set to feature in the World Championships, held in Florida in October.

Brunswick’s Greg Hill took out the division one title, defeating Sandy Bay, Tasmania’s Callum Hyland 26-13 in the final.
Local Kenn Boal was fourth, behind Norwood’s Dwayne McCormick.
In division two, Bendigo’s Phil DeAraugo took the title.
Divisions three and four were ongoing at the time of writing.
