With March being the most dangerous period on Victorian roads, police will launch Operation Arid across the state on Friday, March 6.
The operation aims to target high-risk behaviours to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
Sergeant Andrew Neil in charge of Campaspe Highway Patrol said the police wanted to reinforce sensible behaviour and sensible driving.
“We want people to come to our area and come get here safely and get home safely.”
He said police would be “upping the ante” with additional patrol cars, along with breath and drug tests.
“Start from the start, don’t drink drive and don’t drug drive.”
“If you’re driving under the influence, we’ll catch you out.”
Sgt Neil recommends drivers perform essential vehicle checks, making sure lights and indicators are working and to minimise distractions before hitting the road.
“People that are towing and what not, make sure your trailer (and) caravans (are) connected properly, your chains, all of those basic things because they actually matter.”
Operation Arid starts at 12.01am on Friday, March 6, and ends at 11.59pm on Monday, March 9.
