A matter of minutes before division four also earned the win, Kyabram’s division three squad became the club’s first championship outfit since it made the jump to the Campaspe Playing Area in the offseason.
On weekend pennant grand final day at Moama on Saturday, the Bombers battled Moama, a side they narrowly toppled in the qualifying final, but that had lost only one further game all season.
Ky was able to extend ever so slightly on its two-shot triumph in the semi-final, picking up the pennant 62-57 in three close rinks.
Five was the biggest margin across the greens, as Philip Denham got the win for Ky over David Lonnie 23-18.
The other rinks cancelled each other out as Brad McIntosh earned a three-shot win for the Bombers over Sue Holmes, but Moama’s Russell Kelly matched him with a 24-21 victory over Darryl Gade.
Despite dropping three games elsewhere in the season, Kyabram had Moama’s number, although only barely, throughout the season.
All three games lost by the Steamers came at the Bombers’ hand, but the five-shot grand final margin was the largest of the three meetings.
Moama did pick up the win in the final regular season round, 64-55, but Ky returned to form in the postseason to claim the crown.
