Echuca has suffered its first loss in Goulburn Valley League netball this season, as undefeated Mooroopna proved a touch better in a round five meeting at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
Both sides entered the clash with perfect records after the first four rounds of action, making the meeting undoubtedly the pick of the league’s Saturday slate.
The anticipated clash would live up to expectation, the Murray Bombers putting up a solid effort but coming up short in a 45-37 defeat.
The loss means Echuca has fallen a game behind Mooroopna and Euroa — now the only two sides with unblemished records in the league — but still remains in a strong position in third, level on points with fourth-placed Shepparton, but holding a far superior percentage.
Echuca’s next opportunity to rectify the defeat comes in a home meeting with Shepparton United, the Demons sitting ninth with two wins, though they have been competitive in each match.
