Dr Ayon and Dr Wen came to Yarrawonga Medical Centre from Redgum Medical Group in Corowa that they opened in 2021 with a wealth of experience in varying fields of general practice, emergency medicine and anaesthetics.
Dr Ayon Guha was an engineer working in the mining industry who then decided to study medicine at The University of Western Australia. After working in WA hospitals for a few years, he undertook his General Practitioner training in rural Australia attaining fellowship of The Royal College of GPs.
Dr Wen Guha studied medicine in China and after working in major public hospitals in WA decided to train in regional Australia attaining fellowship of The Royal College of GPs and advanced skills in anaesthetics.
“We originally moved from the city to the regions as big cities are very impersonal, so it was great for us to move to a smaller community where everyone is so welcoming and continuously smiling as they go about their day,” Dr Ayon explained at the time.
“We want to continue the tradition and level of care that the Yarrawonga Medical Centre has always had as we want the clinic to continue for another 40 years.
“We will continue the services that the practice already has in place such as the skin clinic as I have experience in this from my previous work, but we also have plans to grow and provide new services.
“Yarrawonga is a growing town with shifting demographics, so we want to be able to provide the necessary services for all residents and visitors.
“The objective of general practitioners is to provide care from birth to death which we plan to continue for all of the community.
“We will also introduce future proof medicine and technology which will see us continue to advance in the future.” That advancement officially occurred on Monday, April 22 and was welcomed by locals.
Mulwala Progress Association President Robert Purtle OAM said a medical clinic for Mulwala was wonderful news.
“It’s something the town has wanted for a long time,” he said. “It will be of great benefit to townspeople, with reduced travel.
“I’ve heard so much praise about Dr Ayon, about his achievements, his devotion, commitment and ability in the medical field.
“To have all that is here, including the skin clinic, will be welcomed by everyone.”
Cr Andrew Kennedy of Federation Council said it was great to finally get a medical clinic to service the people of Mulwala and district.
“It will save people from having to travel over to Yarrawonga and Albury, and that will be good especially for the elderly,” the Mulwala-based councillor said. “It’s great news.”
Former Corowa Shire Councillor Jan Doyle of Mulwala loves everything about the new clinic. “I’m sure all Mulwala will appreciate having the medical centre in Mulwala that Dr Ayon and Dr Wen have established,” she said.
Mulwala Pharmacist Abbey Hammon said it was so exciting to see a clinic up and running in Mulwala.
“It’s a great asset to have and fantastic to have additional medical services in Mulwala,” she added.
Property developer Bob Kay designed and developed the 180sqm medical centre, the previous home of Riverina Plains.
“I’ve wanted to see it for 10 years. It’s fantastic, absolutely great to have a doctor’s clinic. It will be great for the community,” he said.
Opening of the Mulwala Medical Centre + Skin Clinic has certainly met that long time wish of so many Mulwala residents. A long-time advocate for such a clinic, the late Stan Clarke OAM would love it.
