Despite there being only one active case in the Campaspe region, Federal Regional Health Minister Mark Coulton said every person needed to play their part in tackling the rise of COVID-19.
“Victorians across the state are experiencing a rise of COVID-19 and now, more than ever, itis vital everyone does their bit to stop this situation getting out of hand,” he said.
“Regardless whether you live in Richmond or Rutherglen, Brunswick or Bendigo, it is up toevery one of us to ‘do the three’ to protect our friends, families and ourselves from thevirus.
“That means washing your hands, practising social distancing and downloading theCOVIDSafe app."
So far, regional Victoria has remained relatively safe from the spike in cases experienced in Melbourne, with only one active case currently in the Campaspe region.
“Coronavirus does not discriminate and people living in regional areas are not immune to itsdangers,” Mr Coulton said.
“We can suppress this outbreak, just as we did the last, but we have to work together andeach do what we can to stop the spread.”
He also encouraged those unable to practise social distancing to consider wearing aface mask.
More than 140 dedicated respiratory clinics are operating across Australia as part of the Federal Government’s response to the outbreak, 26 of which are in Victoria.
“We are putting in place a range of measures including additional practice incentives and theexpansion of telehealth to enable the rural medical workforce to continue to care forregional Australians through this crisis,” Mr Coulton said.
“If you experience fever, cough, sore throat, or other respiratory symptoms — even if they’remild — please contact your local respiratory clinic or doctor for testing.”
