Campaspe Highway Patrol, CFA and SES were called to the Stihl Shop at 47 Ogilvie Ave at about 12.40pm to reports a man had driven a Chevy ute through the front window.
While investigations are still under way as to what exactly happened, Echuca police Acting Sergeant Dale Simpson said it seemed to be accidental.
Echuca Stihl Shop employee Rob Schroder said the driver told him he was driving down Ogilvie St when he had a “coughing fit’’.
The driver allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic, drove up onto the nature strip, through the fencing of Stihl store and hit a parked car before crashing into the shopfront.
Stihl put up a sign on its window which explained the situation and said the driver “woke up” in the window.
Sgt Simpson said driver and business exchanged details and no arrests were made.
He also said there were no injuries and Ambulance Victoria was refused.
The man was tested by police for any drugs or alcohol in his system, which were found to be negative.
Campaspe Shire was called to the scene to assess the building damage; however, police have said there was “no structural damage’’.
If anyone has dashcam footage of the incident, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
