Pearse books ticket to Paris

Paris bound: A silver medal in the 200m individual medley at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester has earned Col Pearse a spot at the Paris Paralympic Games.

The result has also earned Pearse qualification for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, with the gold and silver medallists from each event at this year’s world champs automatically qualifying for the games.

The 20-year-old completed the race in a time of 2:13.68, 3.27 seconds behind gold medallist Stefano Raimondi of Italy.

It is back-to-back silver medals in the event for Pearse, who also claimed second at last year’s world champs in Portugal, taking his haul of medals across all world championships to three silver and one bronze.

Pearse also competed in the 100m butterfly and the 100m backstroke.

He walked away with a bronze medal in the butterfly event after finishing second in his heat.

He finished sixth in the final of the backstroke event on Sunday evening.

The reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist and 2022 World Championships silver medallist will be right in the hunt for his maiden world title.
