This year’s Great Postie Bike Adventure went through north western Tasmania with funds raised used to support Launceston Northern WP Holman Clinic Trust and Echuca Regional Health (ERH), with each facility receiving a $50,000 donation.
ERH chief executive Robyn Lindsay said they were thankful for the ongoing support from the committee and participants of the ride, who last year donated $100,000 toward the cancer centre.
“The $50,000 donation we have received will go directly towards the provision of wellness programs within the Cancer Centre,” Ms Lindsay said.
“It is our intention to increase the variety and number of programs available to the community and without fundraising support this would not be possible.”
Starting in Devonport, riders travelled to Tullah, then the following day was a loop down to Queenstown, Strahan and Zeehan. Wednesday’s ride was from Tullah to Corinna across the Franklin River and then to Smithton, and the final day took riders back to Devonport.
Event co-ordinator Dick Phillips said they had riders from every state, all with the common interest of raising funds for cancer support services.
“The weather was pretty good with only one wet day on the bikes and the hospitality we were shown along the way was first class,” Mr Phillips said.
“We can’t thank our support crew and event partners enough, and special thanks must go to Moama Bowling Club and Echuca Mazda. Without their ongoing help it would be difficult to make such an event happen.”
Horizon Committee Inc, the event organiser, is a registered charity and has been involved in fundraising for cancer support services since 2004.
They have donated more than $2.4 million through fundraising events such as The Murray Charity Meander, Echuca Moama’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch, Little Blue Towels project and Great Postie Bike Adventure.
Plans for next year’s Great Postie Bike Adventure are well underway with the event to be based in Bright, Victoria and the Alpine region.
