A huge two days is on the cards for the twin towns, with Saturday night's triathlon the main event starting at 6 pm. Saturday morning's Junior Duathlon and Sunday's Wharf to Winery swim will also be hotly contested.
And there are set to be more than 200 athletes taking to the water and the road in coming days as they look to take home a share of the prize money.
“The number of entrants has dramatically increased in the past week, which is really exciting,” Echuca Moama Triathlon Club secretary Michael Davy said.
“A lot of people leave their entries to late because they're conscious of the weather, but it looks like we are going to have some great racing conditions.
“It's certainly going to be an exciting weekend for everyone involved, we're really looking forward to it.”
There will be a range of prize money amounts on offer to competitors across the weekend including $250 for the first female and male across the line in the triathlon and $450 for the first female, male and mixed teams. The fastest female and male swimmers in the open category in the 3 km Wharf to Winery event will each be awarded $500.
And despite crosstown raiders set to be involved, race director Kelley Walker said there were still several strong local hopes.
“This year's race is the first time we will be offering a cash prize to our teams, which is really exciting,” Walker said.
“I'd definitely keep an eye on Maddy Clarke in the women's race, she should be a top contender.
“In the teams’ event there is a group of young guys including Brad Mellington and Archie Reid who caught my eye and I think they'll be right up there.
“The men's competition is anyone's race but Anthony Goss from Geelong is someone spectators should watch out for.
“The club just wants to see everyone have a good time during the race.”
Competitors can still register for the triathlon at Hopwood Gardens from 3 pm on Saturday.
