In a post on its Facebook page on Saturday, Mathoura confirmed clubs were still working through the logistics of the competition potentially going ahead.
Previously, the PDFNL announced it was targeting a July 11 start date.
“On Wednesday night, the PDFNL and clubs met to discuss further the possibilities of a 2020 season,” the post said.
“It was made clear from the PDFNL that, so long as a viable season can occur which includes crowds of 500 (over and above players) and canteen and bar facilities were permitted the league would go ahead with the 2020 season.
“The executive committee have been continuously meeting to discuss and will continue to do so as new updates arise.
“As stated in previous updates, we are still concerned about how viable a modified 2020 season would be and how it would affect the club in years to come.
“We understand this is a very unsettling and confusing time for everyone, and we assure you we are doing everything to ensure the best possible outcome moving forward. As always the safety of our community, players and members is paramount.
“As you can imagine restrictions are changing all the time, with today Victoria announcing increased restrictions.
“Rest assured we are working hard to achieve the best outcome for our club and community.”
● Remaining local competitions, the GVL and MFNL - who have held off making an announcement on the future of their seasons - have also been dealt what may be their seasons’ coup de grâce with restrictions on contact training put in place and the resumption of competitions scrapped in Victoria.
The new restrictions around public gatherings have also created another massive hurdle in allowing a return for crowds, which have been identified by all leagues as a necessity.
It comes in the wake of serious concerns a second wave of the coronavirus could hit Victoria.
All leagues are expected to hold meetings this week, with a final decision on their futures likely to be made.
NSW will allow all community sport to resume from July 1.
