After Echuca United claimed the trophy back in 2019, this time it was Moama's turn to celebrate, with every grade from the Magpies’ football and netball programs taking home wins.
As players and supporters celebrated, no one was prouder of the result than Moama president Matt Lake.
“It was really good to get that result and to win every game of football and netball was fantastic,” Lake said.
“I'm really happy for all the footballers and netballers to have some success in front of such a big crowd.
“It proves we've done a really good pre-season and we're on the mark so to speak and heading in the right direction.”
With the culmination of a day's worth of games determining who takes home the cup, Lake also applauded the efforts of the club's junior teams on Friday.
“It's not just the seniors and A-grade, it's about every grade and we're very satisfied we had a great day,” he said.
“Juniors are the future, so to see them very competitive, it was even more enjoyable.
“The junior players and coaches have been working really hard over the pre-season and for them to benefit from such a big day is fantastic.”
After a series of deals with other clubs saw Moama play their opening games at Moama Recreation Reserve, Lake said the start of the new season had exceeded expectations.
“We've had record numbers, and the atmosphere was electric (on Friday),” he said.
“We had players and supporters say the noise coming out of the grandstand; they thought they were at the MCG.
“Financially it's set us up for a great year, and to get in and use the new facilities and see how they're working has been really good.”
Lake thanked Echuca United for all its efforts in getting the Good Friday match off the ground.
“It was really good for both clubs to join forces off-field and put on a show for local people and a lot of tourists in town who came as well,” Lake said.
“It was both committees who made it happen.
“United came to us to request to play here and it proves we can work together off-field to get a great result.”
