Bavich contested the Open men’s C singles, the Open men’s B doubles with Deagan Tomkins and the Open mixed event with Isabella Crossman.
The 18-year-old was the third seed in his singles division, winning an opening round contest in straight sets before contesting a pair of tie-break matches to earn a place in the final against second seed Mehn Saik Chan.
Along the way he also beat the division’s top seed. It wasn’t his first success at the tournament; he and Crossman won the open mixed two years ago.
The format has changed from previous years, with Bavich previously forced to compete in the elite division.
Players are now grouped together according to their Universal Tennis Rating.
Bavich won the contest 7-6, 6-3 in a final that lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
He then combined with another Rich River star, Deagan Tomkins, to win the open men’s B doubles event.
They won their opening match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 and a second-round bye advanced them to the semi-final. The unseeded pair dropped the first set in a tie- breaker before responding with a 6-2 second set win to set up a tie-breaker.
They took that tie break 10-7 and then won the final in straight sets against top seeds Gavin D’Souza and Ned Simpson 7-5, 6-4.
Crossman and Bavich won their opening round match before the quarter-final withdrawal of their opponent allowed them to advance to the semi-finals.
A slow start saw them drop the opening set 1-4, but a 5-4 second set win forced the match into a tie-breaker. They lost that tie-breaker 7-10 to Taya Powell and Nick De Vivo, who eventually lost in the final.
Crossman and Emerson Jones, who was the women’s open singles A champion, combined in the open A doubles event. They entered the match as the top seeds.
They had an opening-round bye, but cruised through the next two rounds in straight sets to set up a final against second-seeded Eliza Long and Josie New.
The Crossman/Jones pair won the opening set 7-6, before the match was tied after a Long/New 7-5 second-set win. The tie-breaker also went down to the wire, with a 10-8 win for Long and New.
Crossman, Bavich and Tomkins, along with Edmund and Phillipa Bush, are contesting the three-day 66th inter-regional country championships at Horsham starting from today.
Bavich will contest the boys’ 18 years singles and doubles, along with the 18 years mixed doubles with Marli Pymer.
Tomkins will contest the men’s 25 years singles and doubles events, while Crossman is entered in the women’s open singles, the open doubles with Michelle Balic, and the mixed with Isaac Watson.
Crossman is seeded number three in the singles, and with Watson is also the third seed in the mixed event.
Nick Bush and wife Celine will compete in the 50-years-plus singles and doubles, and combine in the mixed event.
