Bombers win it in the fourth

Leitchville-Gunbower held off Heathcote’s second-half charge to score its first win of the season.

Leitchville-Gunbower closed out a close contest with Heathcote in the fourth quarter in round two of Heathcote District Football League action.

The Bombers had the lead for much of the game, but the Saints were able to erase the deficit heading into the final term, resulting in a tense fourth period.

Leitchville-Gunbower eventually earned some breathing room and ended up 9.13 (67) to 8.8 (56) winners.

The home side was in the ascendancy early at Gunbower Recreation Reserve, kicking three goals to Heathcote’s one to lead 22-9 at the first break.

The Bombers tacked on a couple more points in a close second period, and were up 15 at the half, but the Saints surged back in the third to cut the margin to three points.

A low scoring final term saw Leitchville-Gunbower slot two goals to one to seal the victory.

Now 1-1, Leitchville-Gunbower will hope this result can build momentum, although the Bombers will sit idle with the bye over Anzac Day weekend.

Their next action will come on May 2, when the side hosts the 0-2 Huntly.
