Echuca and Moama set for junior finals

In the under-16s, the Echuca Murray Bombers enter their post-season run off the back of a solid regular season where they went 6-4.

That was good enough for a third-place finish in the six-team competition, setting up an elimination final in the first week of the post-season against the fourth-placed Shepparton Bears.

The fixture could be a thriller, with the two sides having split their regular season head-to-head clashes, including the Bears winning by just a point in the most recent clash on June 28.

Echuca also has two teams competing in the under-14 division one finals, and its sides are facing each other this weekend.

In another elimination final, the Echuca Murray Bombers will take on the Echuca Bombers, the former arguably the favourite as they finished higher in the regular season with two more wins.

The Murray Bombers also won the two match-ups earlier this year, though only by one point and 14 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, in both division two finals series, Moama Junior Football Club has one of its teams involved.

In the under-16s, Moama Magpies face Shepparton United in a qualifying match, where the winner will book its spot in the grand final.

Moama finished top of the division with an 8-2 record, ahead of the Demons by only two percentage points.

Adding to how closely matched the two sides are is the nature of how their previous clashes ended, Shepparton winning in round four by three points before Moama earned its revenge in another tight contest in round nine, winning by a goal.

The Magpies also have an under-14 division two final to look forward to this weekend, Moama taking on Broadford in an elimination match-up.

The encounter should be close, the Roos having finished only a game clear of Moama on the ladder in third, and just a goal separated the sides in their last meeting.

All four finals involving Echuca and Moama sides will take place at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve on Sunday, August 9.
