Echuca United overpowered by Sandhurst

Echuca United went down to Sandhurst last Friday evening.

After a second straight loss the previous weekend Echuca United’s under-18 girls were unable to rebound against Sandhurst in round six of the Central Victoria Football League.

In a Friday night clash at Ewing Park in Bendigo, the two sides went in in similar positions on the table and it seemed a fittingly close encounter was on the table during the first quarter.

The home side had the edge in the term, kicking three goals to two and opening up a 21-13 lead, one it would build on for the rest of the game.

The Dragons added another three in the second period, while United’s production dipped to one, Sandhurst up a more comfortable 23 points at the main break.

Hopes of a comeback began to fade as the third period wore on, the Dragons again adding to their lead, and the hosts would close out the game with their best quarter of the match to win dominantly 11.15 (81) to 4.4 (28).

On a tough attacking night for the Eagles, no player managed more than one goal, Matilda Fowler, Jemma Lewis, Jaiden Lowrie and Julia Taranto kicking one each.

United sits eighth on the ladder with one win from six matches.

Despite having three teams it has not yet played, United heads into its second clash against unbeaten leader Woorinen.

The game will start at 11am on Sunday at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.
