A see-sawing contest the whole way at Moama Recreation Reserve, the Mowers held the edge at every break and escaped with a four-goal win, 39-35.
Rumbalara snuck out to a small lead in the opening minutes, but Moama quickly reeled in the opposition and took a goal advantage into quarter time, 11-10.
An early run got the lead out to six to start the second and Rumba was playing catch up for the rest of the half, eventually making a surge of its own to get back within three at the main break.
Again the Mowers would start better in the third quarter and, this time, were able to hold on to the lead, going into the final period up by six.
Rumba threw everything into a low-scoring last term, but Moama held off the charge to take the points.
Moama now sits among a crowded group of contenders, its 5-2 record only good for fifth place on goal difference.
After an influx of youth in the off-season the Mowers have shown maturity beyond their experience, particularly on the defensive end, only the leader Mulwala averaging fewer goals against per contest.
Moama will be favoured to continue the run this Saturday as it takes on the 1-6 Finley at Finley Recreation Reserve.
