With heavy rain throughout the morning, it was difficult for either side to move the ball cleanly, and minor scores became the story of the day.
Neither side had much of a look at the other’s goal in the first quarter, the Mowers sneaking ahead by two points in an otherwise scoreless term.
The parade of behinds continued through the middle quarters, Moama kicking six more minor scores in both the second and third to lead by a rather uncommon scoreline of 0.14 to 0 at the final change.
Shaleah Cooper busts through two tackles.
Zoe McCallum kicked truly to break the goal drought in the last term, while Mansfield broke a drought of its own, finding its first points as Moama wrapped up the 1.14 (20) to 0.1 (1) win.
The win keeps Moama in second place on the league ladder, trailing unbeaten favourite Shepparton United.
The Mowers’ next clash is a Friday night showdown against league newcomer Shepparton Swans.
The game begins at 8pm at Princess Park and will be preceded by a youth girls clash between the sides at 6.30pm, leader Moama returning to action in that competition after a bye.
