Bamawm’s Tokyo Paralympic hero Col Pearse is off to Portugal for the World Para Swimming Championships following his selection for the Australian Dolphins.
The team was announced on Tuesday, April 12 by Swimming Australia at the conclusion of the 2022 Australian Para Swimming Championships, where Pearse placed fourth in the 100m butterfly.
Pearse, the 100m butterfly bronze medallist at the recent Tokyo Games, is one of 21 swimmers selected for the Australian team bound for Madeira in June, marking the 18-year-old’s third straight selection for the world championships team.
Coming in off the back of a successful Paralympics campaign, Pearse is also one of 19 Paralympic swimmers in what is set to be one of the strongest Australian teams in years.
Pearse’s first selection in the green and gold came in 2019 as the 310th person picked as an Australian para swimmer, and he marked his maiden green and gold showing with a bronze at the London iteration.
With the 2020 and 2021 championships cancelled due to COVID-19, Pearse’s next international event would come in Tokyo for the Paralympics where he claimed his famous medal.
Pearse also swam his way to the 100m backstroke final.
The 2022 World Para Swimming Championships will run from June 12 to 18 in Madeira, Portugal.
