On the second day of competition today, Friday July 24, at Glasgow 2026, and the first on the swimming schedule, the Bamawm Extension product’s S10 100m butterfly title defence will be decided.
Pearse’s heat will be held in session one, set to run from 10.30am to 1pm BST (7.30pm to 10pm AEST).
Should he progress to the final, the gold medal holder will swim for the silverware that night in session two, which is scheduled for 7pm to 10pm BST and 4am to 7am Saturday AEST.
The medal ceremony for the event will also be held during session two.
Pearse beat out countryman Alex Saffy by 0.62 seconds four years ago in Birmingham, and after Saffy narrowly edged out the local for the bronze at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Both swimmers will be among the favourites to bring another gold back to Australia this time around.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in a stripped back format, with only 10 sports included, the least since 1994.
After Victoria withdrew from hosting duties in 2023, Glasgow stepped in as a replacement using existing facilities.
Pearse’s quest for gold will be shown live on Channel 7 and 7Plus, which has broadcast rights to the entire Games.
The games run from July 23 to August 2.
