Despite gritty efforts from three separate sides to finish seventh, including the senior men, only the club’s reserves footballers and B-reserve netballers will carry hopes the Tigers hopes into the post-season.
Rochester’s reserves side has had a strong overall campaign, finishing the year in fourth with a 13-5 record and an impressive percentage of 237.5.
The Tigers are headed into an elimination final with Seymour (11-7), which is scheduled for 11.45am at Tatura Park on Saturday.
The sides have only met on one previous occasion this year, Rochester comfortably on top 9.13 (67) to 5.4 (34) on that day.
Should the Tigers get through their next game is dependent on other results.
Should third-ranked Shepparton win its game against Shepparton United, then Rochester will take on the loser of the top two clash between Echuca and Kyabram in another elimination game.
If the Demons instead defeat the Bears, Rochy will gain a second chance, advancing to a grand final qualifier against the top two winner.
B-reserve
In netball, the Tigers’ B-reserve squad finished with a solid 12-6 record, good for fifth in the league.
Coming into the finals on a two-game losing run, Rochy will look to turn things around in an elimination semi against Shepparton Swans, marked down for Sunday at Euroa.
The sides have met twice previously, splitting the series one win apiece.
Shepparton Swans survived the first encounter on May 16, 39-38, but the Tigers have the more recent bragging rights, winning 50-43 earlier this month.
Similarly to the football, if Rochester is victorious its next game is dependent on the 3rd v 6th result, where Seymour takes on Benalla.
The Tigers’ opponent will be one of the top two, Shepparton United or Euroa.
