A quiet week on the Western front with the running of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday along with no Midweek pennant and no Barefoot bowls for the week.
However, the club and members enjoyed some success on the greens as all weekend pennant divisions had a successful day on Saturday, playing at home.
The weather was at best ordinary, but the greens ran true out of the gale force winds.
Division Three defeated Tongala 75-52 with two rinks up (Steve Pavone d. H Crilly 27-16; John Fisher d. P Cooper 28-11; Leanne McInnes lost to B Tinning 20-25).
Division Four also played Tongala and had all rinks in front at the end of the day, winning 68-45 (Shane Felmingham d. J Reid 24-15; Denise Gilmore d. D Reid 21-16; Cindy Felmingham skipped "her girl all-stars” to defeat D Hately 23-14).
Division Five defeated Echuca 41-32 in a real battle (Rod Fiedler d. D Smith 24-16; Kalvin Stout d. D North 17-16).
Great to see Graham Turner back on track.

At the Sixty and Over competition played at Kyabram on Wednesday, our local rink comprising Jim Harris, John Andrea, Greg Clymo (Echuca), Kalvin Stout (s) won all three games and had five in the area to win the "golden" chooks for the week.
On Thursday, a composite team of Mel Freeman, Denise Gilmore, Gail Goodwin (Mathoura), Cindy Felmingham (s) played at the Eaglehawk Ladies Consistency Fours and won two out of the three games. Not too bad.

Another good field of 24 played a Stableford event over the back 9, last Wednesday.
Although Richard Feuk was in a 4-way tie, it was surprising to some that he didn't get the win even after an extensive count-back.
The colourful T-shirt of Robert Ralph once again got him over the line by winning with 21 points from Chris Trewin, Shane Bywaters and Feuk.
The next best were Kevin McCormick, Peter Anderson and Robert Vise all on 20 points.
Bywaters on 12 and Shane Wolfe on 16 were the nearest-the-pin winners on the day.
Cooler than normal, although better than the previous week, greeted 14 pairs last Friday evening for the 2nd, 2-person Ambrose event.
Once again, Grant Robinson and David Harris combined well to win with 34, net 28.38.
Col Harvey and Troy McInnes were runners-up with 29.25 from Ash Portwine and James Anderson, Darren White and Bruce Bryant and Andy Purdy and partner Lachie Wilson.
Good to see Gavin Houlihan back playing, also winning a ball for his nice shot to the 16th hole.
Wilson was closest to the 8th, Louise Williams won the straightest drive on the 10th, while now regular Friday evening player Ash Portwine won the jackpot for his shot to the difficult altered par 3, 15th hole.
A small group played Stableford from the white front tees on Saturday.
Steve Bubb showed that his good stroke making hasn't deserted him, by winning on 39 points, also taking home balls for his 2nd shots to 9 and 18.
Runner-up on a 3-way countback was Mark Walsh from Robert Vise and Frank Severino, all on 35.
The 16th nearest-the-pin went to Robert Vise.
Goulburn Valley Veteran Golfers
The Goulburn Valley Veteran Golfers extend our sincere condolences to the families in the passing of two respected local identities that have both served the golfing community of the Goulburn Valley for a very long time.
Firstly, we acknowledge Craig Prothero, the former general manager of Mooroopna Golf Club, who retired early due to health issues, and secondly to Graeme Wright, the former club professional at Shepparton Golf Club.
We appreciate the help and support both gentlemen have extended to our members over the years.
On Monday, November 10, 73 veteran golfers also turned out for the Jimmy Rae memorial event at Mooroopna Golf Club to honour the distinguished service of past president James Rae’s unbroken service on the GVVGA committee for 27 years.
It was also an honour to have our sponsor, Shirley Rae, in attendance to make the presentations.
This was a stroke event, the third round of our championship program, which is sponsored by GMCU.
The weather was ideal, moving from 15 to 20°C throughout play with a light breeze not exceeding 20 km/hour.
There was high praise for the condition of the course, but still the home course advantage was evident in the prize distribution.
A-grade leader was Keith Seeber, Euroa, 70 nett; from Michael Meehan, Mooroopna, on 72.
B-grade winner was Neil Parker, Numurkah, 70; from Bruce Lynch, Mooroopna, with 71.
C-grade winner was Ian Clarke, Kialla, 70; well clear of Neville Christensen, Mooroopna, 74 pts.
Nearest-the-pin was contested on the 10th hole at 146 metres.
