On Tuesday, the Member for Murray Plains and Nationals leader Peter Walsh was joined by Murray River Council mayor Chris Bilkey, Campaspe Shire deputy mayor Vicki Neele and Echuca Regional Health chief executive Nick Bush to help spread the message locally.
“Thanks heavens it is only a photo and not an audition,” Mr Walsh said.
“But the song by Brand Music’s Michael Burrows urging Victorians to be responsible and stay home as much as possible is what we need to do,” he said.
Burrows’ What We Need song and slogan is signified by making a W with both hands.
ERH’s Nick Bush said the twin towns have so far been fortunate to not have a COVID-19 problem although his hospital is still on full standby with dedicated beds and facilities.
“But if movements like the W campaign from Michael Burrows can hammer home the preventative message, we will be delighted if our hospital beds remain empty,” Nick added.
Cr Neele said she wanted more people to focus on the future and getting there as fast as possible.
“If people can continue to be patient and restrained instead of selling the COVID message we will be able to spend more time telling people we want them to visit the twin towns, that this is a fabulous place to visit,” she said.
Cr Bilkey said with the twin towns paying the price of Melbourne’s soaring infection rates, seeing its streets choked with peak hour traffic, every little thing that helps cut that back must be tried.
“Including this clever Michael Burrows who has used his musical and jingle skills to create a new awareness of COVID-19 and our role in stopping it; so yes, this is a great initiative.”
