Echuca water tower overflows

ECHUCA’S High St water tower turned into a fountain on Friday night with water pouring onto the street and footpaths below – pulling a constant parade of fascinated locals.

Coliban Water incident manager Steve Healy said the cascade was caused by an equipment failure in the tower’s remote monitoring and control system.

As a result, the level of water stored in the tower increased and caused it to overflow.

“Coliban Water contractors repaired the problem around 9pm on Friday,” Mr Healy said.

“The contractors attended and were able to re-wire the system to repair the issue,” he said.

“There was no disruption to Echuca’s normal water supply during this time.

“But there was some minor flooding around the base of the tower due to the overflow, which quickly dispersed.”

Further investigations regarding the cause of the communication equipment failure will take place this week.
